GLS Moving Forward With $4.6 Billion Translation Contract
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Mar 13, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) - The U.S. Army has authorized Global Linguist Solutions (GLS,) a joint venture of DynCorp International (NYSE:DCP) and McNeil Technologies, to resume performance on a contract for translation and interpretation services. The protest of the February 2008 award has been withdrawn.
The five-year contract has a maximum value of $4.6 billion. The U.S. Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) awarded the contract to GLS to provide management of translation and interpretation services in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF.)
DynCorp International owns a majority interest in the joint venture.
Under the contract, GLS will provide foreign-language interpretation and translation services to the U.S. Army and other U.S. government agencies supporting OIF, including embedded Iraqi interpreters who operate with U.S. forces. GLS will initially employ up to 7,000 locally hired translators and up to 1,500 U. S. citizens with security clearances who are native speakers of languages spoken in Iraq.
GLS has added L-3 Services, Inc. as a sub-contractor for the performance of the contract. The addition of L-3 Services, whose work will be carried out by its Linguist Operations and Technical Support Division (LOTSD), will facilitate a seamless transition on the ground in Iraq. L-3 joins nine other subcontractors, all of whom contribute specialized capabilities to the GLS Integrated Team Management Approach.
